Janice Elaine Mason

Janice Snyder Mason, 101, of Burlington, N. C. passed away on February 2, 2025. She was a long-time resident of Twin Lakes Community. Janice was born in York, Pennsylvania to the late Roy M. Snyder and Helen P. Snyder of Hagerstown, Maryland. She was the beloved wife of Winston Randolph Mason who died in 2001. Janice is survived by daughters Marilyn M. Brown (Peter) of Naples, Florida, and Mary H. Mason (Robert Lubke) of Hillsborough, North Carolina and by son Winston R. Mason, Jr. (Kimberly) of Winchester, Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Winston R. Mason III (Gracie), Katelyn M. Logan (Todd), Mason G. Brown and great grandchildren Evelyn J. Mason, Winston M. Mason and Helen Mason Logan.

Mrs. Mason is a graduate of Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, MD, and Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio with a degree in Business. After college, Janice married Randolph (Randy), her high school sweetheart. They lived in New York City where they both worked on the Manhattan Project - Randy working with government scientists and Janice as a secretary, during World War II.

Later they moved to Corning, NY where Randy worked for Corning Glass Works and they raised their three children. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church. Following Randy’s retirement from Corning Glass, they traveled and lived in a variety of places: Chapel Hill, NC; Venice, FL; Banner Elk/Sugar Mountain, NC; Cornelius, NC. Janice later moved to Twin Lakes Community.

Janice was a devoted mother, very independent, generous and always very stylish. She enjoyed many friendships, reading, movies and traveling in the US and Europe. She was also an avid Duplicate Bridge player, which she continued to play well into her 90's at Twin Lakes Community. She would proudly point out results posted on the bulletin board showing that she and her partner had placed first again!

A special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Moneta Springs, and the dedicated employees within the Twin Lakes Community in Burlington, NC, as well as the Hospice Caregivers.

A graveside service and celebration of Janice’s life will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, PA at a future date.
