Janet Spears

Mrs. Janet Messina Spears, age 88, of the Village of Brookwood, passed away at the Edgewood Place Health Care Center after several months of failing health. Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Messina and the late Maria Mazzerese Messina and was formerly married to the late George Edward Spears, Sr., founder of BMOC. Janet was a former legal secretary, managed a travel agency while she lived in California and was a longtime homemaker. Janet was an entrepreneur at heart and helped promote her former husband in his many business dealings. She was a volunteer for the Civil Air Patrol during WWII and was a past President for the Brookwood Residents Association. Mrs. Spears is survived by her son, Greg Spears of Chapel Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; and a daughter, Debra Lynn Spears. The family will conduct a memorial service in Big Sur, CA in June of this year.
