Jane Beckom

Burlington Mrs. Jane Thompson Beckom, age 73 of Gerringer Mill Rd. passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Hospice Home. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late William Lonnie and Ruth Barber Thompson and the wife of Benjamin Cecil Beckom who survives. During her career, she had been employed by Western Electric, was secretary for First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, operated The Coffee Shop and then retired as secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Graham. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elon and was active in the United Methodist Women as well as The Shallowford Squares. Jane is survived by her husband, Ben Beckom of the home; sons, Todd Beckom of Elon and Rodney Beckom and wife Marlee of Advance; grandchildren, Benji, Dess, Lillee Hope and Chandler Beckom; siblings, Desmond Thompson and wife Helen of Burlington, Marie Huffines of Elon, Barbara "Bobbie" Bryant and husband Arnold "Mo" of Elon, Ronnie Thompson and wife Peggy of Burlington and Roger Thompson and wife Brenda of Elon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Elon by Rev. Terry Huffines. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mrs. Beckom will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6-8pm Thursday and at other times at the home.
