Swepsonville - Jan Brothers Johnson, age 60, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. She was a native of Alamance and the wife of 34 years to the late Gerald Lacy Johnson, Jr. Jan retired after 28 years with Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the Lamp Lighters Sunday School Class. Jan was a member of the church choir and Sunday school teacher. She sang duets with her husband, Gerald in churches throughout the community. Jan served as a member of the Lay Witness Foundation and she loved baking pound cakes for shut-ins affectionately know as "Pounds on Wheels". Jan was a 1970 graduate of Southern Alamance High School where she was a member of Bells and Sons then she later graduated from ACC with a degree in Nursing and was a member of the NC Nurses Association. She was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her son, Gerad Johnson and his wife, Crystal of Burlington; daughter, Tanya Turner and her husband, Ben of Jamestown, NC; grandchildren, Ryan Coble, Evie Johnson, Landon Johnson, Drew Simmons, Kyndall Turner, Dylan Turner, Luke Anderson and Taylor Anderson; brother, James Lawrence Brothers of Burlington; special adopted sisters, Joyce Gooch of Creedmoor and Sue Willett of Durham; special adopted brothers, Richard Brothers of Whitsett and Carlos Dishman of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Lacy Johnson, Jr., parents, James Love "Hop" Brothers and Betty Ruth Overman Brothers and a brother, Johnny Page Brothers. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and Rev. Rodger Roach with burial to follow at Alamance Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:45 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of her son, Gerad Johnson, 724 Meadowood Drive, Burlington. Memorials may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215, Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance/Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC or St. Jude's Foundation, One Street Jude Medical Drive, St. Paul, MN 55117-1761.
