James "Rabbit" Woodlief

James "Rabbit" Woodlief

James Clifton “Rabbit” Woodlief, 80, passed on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Granville County to the late Rufus Eugene Woodlief, Sr. and Mary Belle Beaver Woodlief, and was the husband of fifty years to Bernice Elizabeth Brown Woodlief of the home.

James retired after forty-one years from the NC Department of Transportation.  He enjoyed flea markets, yard sales, scratching off his lottery tickets, fishing, hunting and hanging out with his buddies at the Eagles Mart in Gibsonville.

Survivors other than his wife, Bernice include his children, Ray Brown and wife Mary, Kenneth Woodlief and wife Jenny, Tony Woodlief and Tonya Wilson; grandchildren, Sherri Woodlief, Christy Woodlief and husband Patrick Childress, Jessica Woodlief and significant other, Johnathan Gaddy, Dillon Wilson and significant other Michala Thompson, Christopher Lundy and wife Laura, Joseph Dean, Faith Delimont and Kaytelynn; great grandchildren, Cheyenne Heins, Gracie Kay Childress, Payton Gaddy, Serenitee Childress, Delilha Gaddy, Rayleigh Gaddy, Colton Wilson, Aubriana Lundy, Mason Lundy and Braylon Lundy; brothers, William “Bill” Henry Woodlief and wife Alice, Larry Clifford and Mike Tingen; sisters, Rose Marie Shotwell, Brenda Noah and Barbara Ann Ingold and husband Jim; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rufus “Scrappy” Woodlief, Jr., Ronald Woodlief and Donald Woodlief, and his sisters, Jean Lucille Gillis, Louise Stevens, Myrtle Lee Dean and Virginia “Butch” Clapp.

The funeral service will be held 2:00PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Tommy Marley.  The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service and other times at the son, Kenneth’s home in Gibsonville.
