James “Jake” Lundy Oakley, Jr., 90, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Caswell County on May 13, 1929 to the late James Lundy Oakley, Sr. and Viola Mildred Kimbro Oakley and was the husband of 62 years to Helen Barber Oakley who survives.
Jake retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technology after 34 years of service. He attended Fairview United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Jake was involved with the Methodist men’s group, he enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors other than his wife, Helen Barber Oakley include his daughters, Amy Rogers and husband Kirk, Carla Force and husband Scott; grandchildren, Ashley Kernodle and husband Justin, Lindsay Coltrane and husband Zac, Chandler Rogers, Bailey Force and Austin Force; great grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Kernodle, Adalynn Coltrane and a great granddaughter due in June; a brother, Gene Oakley and wife Joyce; a sister, Doris Mansfield; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mattie “Pat” Byrd; and brothers, Clyde, Tom and Hubert Oakley.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Terry Huffines with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. John Dutton. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm Saturday afternoon at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
