James Worrell

Elon James Darrell Worrell, age 64, of 1858 Elon-Ossipee Rd. passed away Friday October 2, 2009 at his home. A native of Montgomery County, Ohio, he was the husband of Jane Tickell Worrell and the son of the late Olen Clyde and Marjorie Jean Horn Worrell. He was a member of Shallow Ford Christian Church where he formerly served as Deacon, Trustee and Youth Sunday School teacher. He retired as delivery supervisor with the Burlington Post Office and was a member of the National Association of Federal Employees. Jim served as a U.S. Marine Sgt. in Vietnam, receiving two purple hearts. Jim and Jane volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jane Tickell Worrell of the home; daughter, Paula Renee Worrell; son, James Christopher Worrell and wife Crystal all of Elon; grandchildren, Jeannie Lee Worrell, Zya Barnes, C. J. Barnes and Kayla Ivey; brother, Gary Clyde Worrell and wife Brenda of Galax, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law, Boyd S. and Estelle W. Tickell. A special thank you to Karen, Nikki and the Hospice nurses and staff, also to the nurses and staff of ARMC Cancer center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday October 11, 2009 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mark Andes and several of Jim's closest friends. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home, following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or Meals on Wheels, 411 W. Fifth Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
