James "Jimmy" Steven Underwood, 68, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. A native of Caswell County, he was the son of the late G. Roy and Ruth Aldridge Underwood and was the husband of Ruth Wilson Underwood of the home. Jimmy was of the Baptist faith. He was employed with Burlington Industries as a diesel mechanic before moving on to Cox Motor Express. He was known mostly for his love of restoring and exhibiting old tractors and farm equipment. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and spending time at the beach. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Wilson Underwood of the home; daughter, Angela Lynn Underwood and partner, Eric Sorensen of Washington D.C.; step sons, Kenneth Ray Wilson and wife, Emily of Oak Ridge, Ronald Glenn Wilson and wife, Sharon of Greensboro, Stephen Wayne Wilson of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren, Corey, Seth, Morgan, Natalie, Noah, Lucy; brothers, William Underwood and wife, Leona of Danville, VA, Harry G. Underwood and wife, Ann of Burlington; sisters, Betty Lou Garrison of Gibsonville, Deborah Cox and husband, Charles of Elon; mother-in-law, Ruby Andrew and sister-in-law, Beverly Spittel. He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, A.J. Andrew; brother-in-law, Robert "Bobby" Spittel; nephew, Brandon Spittel; and his first wife, Linda Ann Spittel Underwood. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor David Steenland with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. A visitation with reception will precede the service from 9:30am until 10:45am at Lowe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
