James Tolbert

James Euel "Jim" Tolbert, 72, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at his home. He was a native of Surry County and the son of the late Euel Oscar and Ila Lea "Bertha" Bowman Tolbert. Jim retired from the US Army after 20 years serving with the 5th Special Forces Delta Group and later retied after 20 years with the Civil Service. He was also a graduate of Shaw University receiving a BA in Business. Survivors include his wife of the home, Elmon "Peggy" Strouth Tolbert; daughters, Deborah Davis and Melodie Gay Davis of Fayetteville, NC; three step sons and two step daughters; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelylena Strouth Tolbert; parents and two sisters. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. by Elder John Strouth at Pine Hill Cemetery with full military honors. There will not be a visitation and Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at lowefh@bellsouth.net.
