James Henry Thompson, age 87, of Friedens Wood Dr. passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. A native of Highland Park, Michigan, he was the son of the late David Henry and Ila Viola Shortt Thompson and husband of Joyce Miranda Thompson, who survives. Mr. Thompson was a member of People's Memorial Christian Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII and a retired Chief Administrator of ATF in Washington, DC. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Colleen Miranda Thompson of the home; daughters; Janet Carolyn Reid and husband Charles of Gibsonville and Jill Ellen Marolla and husband Mark of Fort Walton Beach, FL; son, James "Dave" David Thompson of Gibsonville; grandsons, Steve Bowling and wife Kathryn, James "Ben" Pearson and wife Tiffani and Scott Thompson; step grandsons, Christopher Reid and Chuck Reid; granddaughters, Jessica Porter and husband Ryan, Shari Cox and husband Matthew and Katie Thompson; great grandsons; Jarrett, Caleb and Ethan; great granddaughters, Alyssa, Hailey, Kylie, Sophie, Brenna, Lily, Faith, Savannah and Ella. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, January 11, 2015 in the People's Memorial Christian Church by Rev. John Shields, pastor. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Monday in Alamance Memorial Park. Mr. Thompson will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8pm Saturday. At other times the family will be at their residence. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell; 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
