James Harrelson "Harrel" Swain

James Harrelson “Harrel” Swain, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was born on December 27, 1936 in Caswell County to the late James Samuel Swain and Sallie Harrelson Swain and was married to Rena Snyder Swain who survives.

Harrel retired after 41 years of service as Vice President of Bank of America (Holly Hill Branch), was a member of the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce and former member of Baynes Baptist Church, serving as Treasurer, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was an active member of Union Ridge Church and formerly served as the Cemetery Treasurer. Harrel served on the board of directors with the North Central Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, Burlington Business College and Carolina School of Banking UNC Chapel Hill. Harrel loved spending time with his family and enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Rena whom he loved and cherished for 24 years, children, Barry Swain (Ginger), Beverly Martin and Brent Swain (Tina); grandchildren, Coleman, Cassie, Collin and Carson; brother, Billy Swain; sister, June Swain. He is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Stanley “Scatter” Martin, Jr.; sister, Lois Hughes Fuqua and infant brother, Roy Lee Swain.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan Ficklin with a private family burial. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
