James Haywood Jim Swaim, 82, of 5923 Hwy 49 South died on Friday, October 14, 2005 at Duke University Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born in Alamance County, son of the late Jesse Frank and Ella Horner Swaim and was married for 58 years to Katie Rogers Swaim, who survives. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and retired from Burlington Industries after 34 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Alamance for 49 years where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and chairman of the ushers. He is survived by his wife of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Linda Swaim of Immokalee, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Don McDuffie of Raleigh; grandchildren, Chris Robertson, Melissa Corkern, Chris McClellan, Julie Barnette, Jami Oakley, Kim Sprague and Brent McDuffie; great grandchildren, Colt Robertson, Gregory Corkern, Katie Corkern, Ayden Barnette and Davryn McDuffie; and a brother, Jesse Swaim of Long Beach, CA. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 17, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Alamance by Pastor Daniel Gregory. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Alamance, P.O.
