James Simmons

"Elb Simmons" James Elbridge "Elb" Simmons, age 78, of 4421 Cherry Grove Rd., Elon passed away Monday March 18, 2013 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Wanda Wall Simmons and son of the late Berry Washington and Bertha Minor Simmons. Elb was a prominent farmer in the Concord Church Community and a member of Concord Christian Church where he served in various capacities. Elb was well known for his woodcrafting Survivors include his wife, Wanda Wall Simmons of the home; sisters, Edna Faison and Lottie Tate, Verdie Rice all of Burlington and Mona Busick of Browns Summitt; brothers, Ervin Simmons and wife Didama, Brodie Simmons and wife Irene all of Elon and special friends, Paul and Cathy Taylor of Burlington. He was preceded in death by brothers, William Simmons and Robert Simmons and sister, Hattie Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the Concord Christian Church by Rev. Chuck Hartman and Rev. C. Allen Myers, III. Interment will follow in the Concord Church Cemetery. Mr. Simmons will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6-8pm Wednesday and at the home at other times.
