James Marshall “Jake” Rudd, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the Hospice Home. He was born on January 3, 1930 in Caswell County to the late Wiley Yancey Rudd and Mattie Elizabeth Cobb Rudd. Jake was the husband of 32 years to Joyce Clements Rudd who survives.
He retired after 40 plus years with Matkins Glass Company and carried on the family trade by working as a tobacco farmer. Jake was a Mason of Bula Lodge #409, and a former member of Glen Hope Baptist Church in Burlington and Guess Road Baptist Church in Durham. He enjoyed country music, calling and participating in square dancing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. His true joy in life came from the time he spent with his family, the laughter they shared, and his ability to turn the simplest memories into the greatest tale.
Survivors other than his wife, Joyce Rudd include his daughter, Deborah Rudd Jordan; grandchildren, Adam Marshall Jordan (Meredith), Kelly Elizabeth Westbrook (Jason) and Marsha Smith Foust (Bradley); great grandchildren, Jackson, Sam, Lilly, Hannah Grace, Maddison, Anna Cate, Cora and Wesson; step sons, Randy Murphy (Debbie), and Barry Murphy; step grandchildren, Brian Murphy (Julie), Patrick Murphy, Johnathan Murphy (Stephanie), Kevin Murphy (Amber), Philip Murphy (Allyson), and Samantha Murphy Davis (Devon); step great grandchildren, Jarrett, Brycen, Adalyn, Brixton, Charlie, Brantley, Riley, Connor and Vincent; a sister, Sarah Rudd Zimmerman (Worth); a brother, Bill Rudd; and several nieces and nephews.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathryn Marshall Rudd Smith; son-in-law, William Alvis Jordan; a stepson, David Murphy; and a brother, Louie Rudd.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jacob Danieley and Rev. Larry Redding with the burial to follow at Lea Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3pm to 5pm Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the grandson, Adam Jordan's home.
