Mr. James Theodore Palmer, Sr., age 82, of Whitsett, passed away on December 9, 2015 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Algona, Iowa, he was the son of the late Donald E. Palmer and the late Florence Jennings Palmer and was married for over 57 years to Mrs. Vallie Brown Palmer, who survives. Mr. Palmer was a veteran of the U.S Air Force and after two terms of military service he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from NC A&T University. He was formerly employed with Cone Mills and was one of the founders of the Whitsett Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer before retiring after many years of service. Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of the home; a son, James T. Palmer, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Burlington; a daughter, Vicki Palmer Haithcock of Snow Camp; six grandchildren, Christopher James Palmer, Daniel Lee Palmer, Charles Andrew Palmer, Joseph Donald Palmer, Brandi OA Haithcock and Lee Palmer Haithcock; six great grandchildren, Lilly, Skylar, Braxton, Bella and Halie Palmer and Braylen Miller; four sisters, Pat (Harold) Palmer of Iowa City, IA, Donna (Dick) Firgard of Hudson, IA, Trella (Dwane) Walker of Hudson, CO and Charis Brown of Aurora, CO; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Palmer of Grundy Center, IA and Clara Combs of Burlington; and three brothers-in-law, Andy (Worda) Brown and Melvin Brown, both of Whitsett and Joe Pringle of DeSoto, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Susan Pringle and Elsie Neimeyer; a brother, Wallace Wally Palmer; sister-in-law, Pauline Duckworth; and three brothers-in-law, Emmett Brown, Bobby Brown and James Brown. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Springwood Presbyterian Church by Rev. Dr. Frank Covington. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the daughter, Vickis home, 8111 Old Switchboard Rd., Snow Camp.
