James Larry Mize, age 63 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at ARMC surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 42 years to Barbara Page Mize who survives. Larry retired from Winn Dixie after 20 years and he later retired as the Director of Vocational Trades of Alamance County. Larry most recently was employed with Alamance County Mental Health. He attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Larry was an Executive Board Member of the Coastal Conservation Association of North Carolina CCANC and also a Board Member and Treasurer of the Piedmont chapter of the CCANC. He currently was serving on the NC State Fishery Committee. Larry was an outdoorsman and a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Barbara Page Mize of the home; son, Chris Mize and his wife, Stephanie of Burlington and a daughter, Beth Terry and husband, J.D. of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Mize, Nathan Ballard, Emerson Terry, Abby Mize, Leah Mize, Anderson Terry and Jackson Terry; mother, Gertrude Anderson Mize of Burlington and a sister, Jan Lowder and husband, Mike of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, James Herbert Mize and a sister, Linda Mize. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church by Rev. Neal Salter and the burial will follow at Gilliam's Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery located on Hwy 87 North. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
