James Maher, Jr.

Mr. James Joseph Maher, Jr., age 69, of Burlington, passed away peacefully at his residence after several weeks of failing health.
Born on May 12, 1947 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of the late James Joseph Maher, Sr. and Rosemary Kalinowski Maher, who survives. He joined the Air Force at age 18 and in 1985 he met and married his soulmate, Linda Dederichs-Maher. They moved to North Carolina that same year. He later started his employment with the State of North Carolina Correctional Division and worked until his retirement in 2012. In 1989 he and his wife gave birth to their daughter, Judith.
Mr. Maher is survived by his wife of the home; his daughter, Judith Garbus and her husband, Chad, of Burlington; his mother of Graham; and his six siblings, Rose Folks, Mary Kay Cerovich, Gerry Maher, Mike Maher, Marian Smith and Tony Maher and their extended families.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Jim's life.
