James King, Jr.

Mr. James Edwin "Ed" King, Jr., age 86, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late James Edwin King, Sr. and the late Hulda Fredrick King and was married for 65 years and eleven months to Mrs. Frieda Hodges King, who survives. Ed retired from Southern Bell after 34 years of service was a member of Beacon Baptist Church and was formerly enlisted in the National Guard. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader and gardener. Mr. King is survived by his wife of the home; a son John Michael King and his wife, Jane, of Madison, NC; three grandsons, James Edwin "Jimmy" King IV, Josh Emory King and Christopher Scott King; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and two special nieces, Margaret and Barbara King. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Edwin "Eddie" King III; a grandson, Marcus Edwin King and two brothers, Joseph Robert King and Ralph Elbert King. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, November 3, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Greg Barkman and Rev. Gerald Counts. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 10:45 Monday morning prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Beacon Baptist Church at www.beaconbaptist.com.
