James “Jim” Lowe Shaw, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Alamance County on July 30, 1938 to the late James Lowe Shaw, Sr. and Hattie Huffines Shaw Fish. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margot Sechrest Shaw, the love of his life; a son, Todd Scheidow; a sister, Doris Shaw Ball; and a brother, Sammy Shaw.
Jim was the co-owner of Shaw and Willis Automotive where he and his partner Bill Willis specialized in the repair of Honda automobiles. After retirement Jim and Margot moved onto their sailboat and lived on it for six years, four of which were sailing the Caribbean as far as Venezuela. He was a member of the Neuse Sailing Association where he served as Commodore. Afterwards they moved aboard their motorhome and traveled the US for seven years before moving back into their home in Burlington where they enjoyed their family and neighbors.
He attended Bellemont Methodist Church where he served on the SPRC and Trustee Committees; he was a US Navy veteran serving from 1955 to 1959. Jim also had a pilot license and enjoyed flying his plane.
Jim is survived by his children, Michael “Mike” James Shaw and wife Janie, Kathleen “Kathy” Shaw Sweesy and husband Glenn, David Scheidow and wife Ceci of California and Kim Scheidow of Arizona, wife of the late Todd Scheidow, as well as seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Bellemont Methodist Church with Dr. Richard D. Booker officiating. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
