James "Jim" Reno Middleswarth

James ’Jim’ Reno Middleswarth, 85, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024 after a brief illness at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was born at home in Laurelton, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1938 to the late Raymond Edward Middleswarth Sr. and Edna Moyer Middleswarth. He had been married and divorced from Jean Elizabeth Ewald Middleswarth who passed November 2023, and a brief marriage to Thelma Anders Middleswarth.

Jim grew up in rural Pennsylvania hunting and fishing with his family. He attended Susquehanna University where he obtained his degree and became an accountant. He was a member of the AICPA and ran his own business with his partner Ed Bowers until December of 2022 when he retired. He enjoyed history, sports, and researching old coins. Jim had a great sense of humor that came out once you got him talking, which wasn’t difficult. He spent 50 plus years living in Charlotte and had just moved to the Burlington area to be closer to family.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Baker and granddaughter Amanda Baker; son Brian Middleswarth, wife Karen, granddaughter, Amanda Halvorson; brother Raymond Middleswarth Jr., and wife Ruth; sister Nancy Barnicl‹el; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Jean; his son-in-law, Timothy Baker; and his grandson, Erik Halvorson.

A private funeral will take place at a later time at the family graveyard in Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory at Crisis Assistance  Ministries in Charlotte using the following website: https://crisisassistance.org/donate/make-a-finanial-donation and indicating “This gift is a tribute” or by going directly to the Crisis Assistance Ministry website and click “Donate Now”.
