James Hines, Sr.

Burlington, NC James H. Hines, Jr., age 81 of Collinwood Drive passed away on Friday, January 11, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Durham County and the husband of 57 years to the late Bette Hammond Hines. James retired as the director of the Kendall Center. He was a Dosier for the NC Zoological Park for over 10 years. James graduated form Elon University with a BS in English and served in the US Airforce during the Korean Conflict and in the reserve for 15 years. He was an artist and a published poet and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his husband, daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Meacham and her husband, Michael of Gibsonville; son and daughter-in-law, James H. Hines, Jr. and his wife, Shelly of Shelby; grandchildren, Matthew Hines and Morgan Bailey; half brother, Randy Johnson of Texas. . He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Harry Harrison and Betty Irene Maness Hines Johnson; sister, Murial Sissy Burchell. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
