James Harrison Durham, born on August 16, 1939, in Guilford County, left this world on March 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will resonate with those who knew him. He was a standing member of Altamahaw Baptist Church.
James better known to his friends as "J.D.", was more than just a name; he was a vibrant spirit who embraced life with enthusiasm. Known for his rich personality, he was a talented carpenter who found joy in building birdhouses, crafting them purely to share with others. His generous heart extended beyond his craftsmanship; he loved working out in his yard, where he nurtured a garden filled with beautiful tomatoes that he happily shared, bringing smiles to many faces.
His love for sports was another significant part of his life. Whether he was playing softball, baseball, or golf, James enjoyed all types of sports, where he could connect with others who shared his passions for athletic endeavors. He also cherished quiet moments spent watching John Wayne Westerns on television, where he would unwind and reminisce about simpler times.
James is survived by his children, Pamela George, James Durham, Christina Knight (Jerry); grandchildren, Chris Paschal, Brandy Trulove (Matthew), Brittany Campbell, Jace Durham (Maggie), Evan Durham (Brandie), Wil Rethaford (Jamie), Braxton Rethaford, Hailey Rethaford and Braydon Knight; eleven great grandchildren and one on the way; one great, great grandchild; brother, Bill Durham (Carol); sisters, Linda Harris (Tommy), Judy Revis and Bobbie Wagoner.
James was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Millie Terrell Durham. Together they shared a life filled with love and laughter. He is also preceded in death by his father, Adolphus Harrison Durham; mother, Bessie Shepherd Durham; brother, Harold Durham; and sister, Brenda Guffey. Each of these relationships shaped the warm-hearted man he would become, and the memories they created together remain forever cherished in the hearts of those left behind.
