James Durham

James R. (Jim) Durham, 72, passed away peacefully June the 1st at the Hospice Home after a short illness. Jim was born in Burlington, NC and was the son of the late John Royal Durham and Lois Ingle Durham.

Jim graduated from Walter M. Williams High School ‘63, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol school (serving in Troops A and D), as well as Elon University '75. During his collegiate career he was inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society. After a nearly 20 year career with Burlington Industries as a textile planner he recently retired from the Honda Corporation. As both a trustee and member of the administrative staff he served his beloved home church Emmanuel United Methodist. Most often he could be found getting in a vigorous workout at the Burlington YMCA. His breakfast starter of recent years was the Graham McDonald's Men's Morning Debate Club and part-time swap shop.

Surviving is his son, MAJ(R) James Scott Durham (YoungJu) Chesterfield, VA, his beloved grandchildren, Michael Durham (Jessie), Joe Durham, Christina Durham, and Stephen ‘Ryan' Durham. Jim is also survived by his sister, Carolyn D. Foster (Peyton) of Marion, brother Robert ‘Bob' Durham (June) of Burlington and many nieces and nephews and their children and his former wife, Pamela Geanes Durham. Jim's passion for running our local streets, growing BIG tomatoes, and supporting local yard sales will be sorely missed in our community. He was the best Paw Paw ever.

The family will receive friends and family at Lowe Funeral Home Saturday June 3rd starting at 12:45. Celebration of life service will be conducted in the Lowe Funeral Home chapel 2pm by Dr. James L. "Jerry" Bryan and Pastor Scott Jeffreys. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrance may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell.
