James Monroe Davis, 85, passed away Tuesday at Moses Cone Hospital. He was born January 7, 1931 in Caswell County to the late John Will and Mary Alice Coleman Davis and was married to the late Madeline Elizabeth Tickle Davis. Monroe was a proud American who retired from P. Lorillard after thirty-five years of service and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He enjoyed playing slot machines, sports and just about anything that involved his family. He loved to travel and experience new places. He loved his family, friends and three legged cat Sassy. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Michelle White and husband Craig, Sharon Davis and husband, Robert Garrett; sons, Greg Davis, Kevin Davis and wife Tricia; grandchildren, Brandon Davis, Eric Olah, Will White; sister, Julia Oakley and husband Obie and a brother Clifton Davis. Other than his wife and parents he was predeceased by his sister, Martha Hardy; brothers; Aaron Davis, Robert Davis and Oscar Davis.
The funeral will be held 1:00 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5:00 -7:00 PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
The family would like to thank his loving caregiver, Maria Trinidad with Homecare Providers for the loving care shown to their father and a special thank you to Vicky Flood, a longtime family friend for all the many years of dedication and love caring for their father.
