Burlington, NC James Norman Berry, Sr. age 85 of 1209 Cleveland Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Stokes County and the husband of 63 years to Edith Faulkner Berry who survives. Norman graduated as valedictorian from Staley High School near Liberty and attended Elon College and the Piedmont Bible College extension program at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church. He retired from Western Electric / AT&T after 38 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America where he served as the special events coordinator. He served during WW II in the US Army in Panama and was a member of the VFW Post # 10607. He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He worked in the camp ministry of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church for many years at Camp Deer Lake. Norman served in previous years as a deacon, sunday school teacher and youth camp counselor at camp in Patrick Springs, Virginia with Riverdale Baptist Church. He was a volunteer with Meels on Wheels and the American Red Cross to whom he donated 12 gallons of blood during his lifetime. Norman loved working with children and youth and spent many years coordinating and transporting the blind and deaf to the Circus and to Holiday on Ice. Norman was a limo driver for many years for the Crosby Golf Classic and he was an avid fisherman and amateur golfer. Survivors include his wife, Edith Faulkner Berry of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Moore and her husband, Wiley of Gibsonville and Deborah Burns and her husband, Rick of Winterville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, James Berry and his wife, Martha of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Amy Curtis Gilland, Kelly Burns, Jim and John Berry; great grandchildren, Travis Clayton, Meredith and Kevin Gilland; sister, Lillian Minor of Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsay Anderson and Ethel Reid Dodson Berry; sisters, Doris Brigman, Mabel Roberts and Annie Wagoner; brothers, Willard Dodson, John, Lewis and Leslie Berry. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Willis and assisted by Rev. Bennie Smith. The burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the 82nd Airborne Division. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Andrews Memorial Baptist Church, 301 W.
