Jackie Crew "Jack" Selvidge Given by God February 19, 1938 Given to God June 26, 2015 Jack was born in Duncan, Oklahoma. At age eighteen he enlisted in the Navy, serving as a navigator, flying off aircraft carriers. Following his four year tour of duty, he returned to school furthering his education in electronics and onsite training in the Navy. As Jack advanced in his career, he worked for RCA on a downrange tracking ship. The ship was owned by RCA under contract to the United States government. These ships were used during the early part of the space program 1966 to track and identify space vehicles upon re-entry into earth's atmosphere. They tracked U.S. vehicles and gathered information on Russian ones. Jack maintained and operated radar systems during re-entry missions. Upon marrying Judy Reichle in St. Louis, Missouri on September 9, 1967, Jack accepted a job with Sperry Rand in order to be "shorebound". One of Jack's major projects was the development of NEXRAD Next Generation Radar, which under his supervision was designed and constructed to replace a series of radar stations built above the Artic Circle, primarily in Alaska, for detection of enemy attacks. Jack was also responsible for testing other systems such as MATCAL Marine Air Tactile Combat Air Landing and wind profiler systems for assisting NOAA the national weather organization in determining atmospheric wind speed and direction. Jack's life will be carried on in the memories of his surviving family: his wife, Judy; his daughters, Pamela Bardusch and her husband, Chris, and their children, Ryan, Justin, Kyle, and Dylan, all of Mooresville, NC, Stephanie Henderson and her husband, Craig, and their children, Noah, Abigail and Ellie Kate, all of Gibsonville, NC; and his son, Scott Selvidge of Charlotte, NC. The family will be conducting a private memorial service at a later date. You may sign the online register book at www.lowefuneralhome.com.
