J. Hurdle, Jr.

Burlington- J. M. "Sonny" Hurdle, Jr. age 85 passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Hospice Home. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of Margarette Webster Hurdle who survives. Sonny retired from the US Department of Agriculture as a tobacco grader. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodge. Sonny enjoyed farming and wildlife especially spending time outdoors. He received his private pilot's license while in his early teens. Sonny was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Margarette Webster Hurdle of Burlington and a daughter, Dawn Reimer of Burlington; grandson, Jerry Tyler Walker of Greenville, NC and a sister, Mary Ann Vinson of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Donavee Sutton Hurdle and a son, June M. "Tripp" Hurdle, III; parents, June Mitchell Hurdle, Sr. and Annie Cooper Hurdle and a grandson, Dustin Walker. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplain Carolyn Burrus and the burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of the daughter, Dawn Reimer.
