Irene "Sis" Hall

February 15, 1928 — January 23, 2020

Irene "Sis" Hall

Irene “Sis” Hensley Hall, 91, of 1430 Shallow Ford Church Rd., Elon, passed away January 23, 2020.

A joyful woman of God, Sis was devoted to her family and especially her beloved husband, James Alexander Hall, to whom she was married for 72 years.  An avid gardener, she enjoyed growing flowers and treasured each new one that she added to her yard, particularly those that were cuttings from friends and family. She loved tending her flowers and generously shared them with everyone.  Those who drove down Shallow Ford Church Road enjoyed passing her yard, as it seemed overwhelmed with gorgeous shades of color from those happy blooms.

Sis is survived by one son, Danny Hall and his wife Helen, and one daughter, Sherry Snodgrass and her husband Mike.  She has four grandchildren: Jason Hall and wife Patricia, Renah Snodgrass Schweninger and husband Mike, Nathan Hall and wife Contessa, and Mandi Snodgrass Hofmann and husband Mike. She also found great blessings in her eight great-grandchildren: Mia Hall, Thomas and William Mitchell, Nathan and Louis Hall, Chaz and Daylyn Walker, and Amelia Hofmann. Sis has two great-great grandchildren:  Rosemary and Alexandra Walker.  Sis was the daughter of the late Lew “Bud” Clifton and Mattie Ingle Hensley. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Mae Hensley and Lucille Hensley.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her sister Irma Moss Foust and brothers Vernon Hensley, Russell Hensley, Wade Hensley, L.A. Hensley, Jake Hensley and Clyde “Stock” Hensley.

Sis’s family extended to include many others, and she especially treasured her Shallow Ford Christian Church family---the people of her church always held a special place in her heart.  She was a long-time member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class and an active participant in many of the church’s community outreaches, including Women’s Fellowship, and helping with both Girl Scouts and the 4-H Club. Sis was a charter member of Shallow Ford Squares, and she and James enjoyed square dancing with them for more than 40 years. Sis was employed for 25 years in the family business, Hensley Hosiery Mill.

A wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Sis Hall is a woman who will be missed by everyone who knew her. She especially loved hearing her beloved James play her favorite song, “Goodnight Irene” on the guitar. Sis so looked forward to being with James once again in Heaven! And yes, now they really are “getting better every day!”

The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2:00pm at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Rev. Steve Regan with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shallow Ford Christian Church.
