Burlington, NC Irene Swinney Vaughn went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Born in Greensboro on May 11, 1922, she moved to Burlington with her parents, Rev. George W. Swinney and Etta Dalton Swinney in 1927 when the family began their ministry at Glen Hope Baptist Church. Irene's husband, Rev. Clarence C. Vaughn, later became the pastor of Glen Hope and continued the ministry and outreach of the church with her support and help. She was a dedicated Christian who provided service to the community as a nurse at Alamance County Hospital. Irene kept the faith and finished her life to the glory of God. She was preceded in death by her husband and their infant daughter, Carolyn Patricia Vaughn. She is survived by her daughters; Judy V. Vaughn and husband Charles of Hendersonville, Lynette Vaughn of Asheville and Donna Smith and husband Robert of Asheville; grandchildren, Jeffrey Minor, Kevin Minor, David Ryan Smith and Chris Smith; sisters, Hazel Burke Jarrett and husband Ralph of Burlington, Yvonne Van Hoy and husband Van of Greensboro; brothers, Clarence Swinney and wife Kitty of Burlington, Vernon Swinney and wife Dale of Burlington, and Rev. Donald Swinney and wife Jane of Graham; sister-in-law, Bootsie Brawley of Burlington. A service of Praise to the Lord and celebration of her beautiful life will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Glen Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Redding, Rev. Donald Swinney and Rev. Bob Stephenson. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6-8pm Tuesday and other times at her residence, 343 Baldwin Road, A3-4 Oak Creek Retirement Community.
