Irene Gibson

Jessie Irene Bowman Gibson, 74, of Beaver Creek Rd. passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at her home. A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Willard Bernard Bowman and Ruth Kellam Bowman Phillips. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a member of the Burgess Circle of the church. She retired from AT&T after 30 years of service and later worked in the Elon University library. Irene was very involved with the Cactus Squares, a square dance club in Graham. Irene was a devoted caretaker for her mother and husband for many years. She had just left her husbands' side when she departed from this earthly life. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, William Lester Gibson; daughter, Anita Ruth Gibson of Burlington; brothers, Robert Bowman of Burlington and Tony Bowman of Naples, FL; half-sister, Doris Ware of Reidsville; half-brother, Bobby Godwin of Linden, NC and numerous nieces and nephews that she deeply loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Dovella Fogleman and Bill Bowman. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kimesville by Rev. Chuck Ireson, pastor. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery. Mrs. Gibson will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory from 6-8pm Wednesday. At other times the family will be at the home of Robert Bowman; 3204 Hwy 62 East, Liberty, NC.
