Howard Wayne Kernodle, 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 10, 2024 at VA Hospital in Durham. He was born in Alamance County to the late Lonzie and Lula Mae Simpson Kernodle and was married for 69 years to Vivian Sharpe Kernodle who survives.
Wayne was formerly employed by Butler’s as an automotive machinist and was a member of Friendly Lane Baptist Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian; daughter, Kellie Whitaker; grandchildren, Crystal Page and her husband, John, James Anthony Whitaker and his wife, Anna and great grandchildren, Trey Whitaker, Ian Whitaker, Alaina Riley-Winger, Hailey Page and Hayden Page. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Kernodle, son-in-law, James Whitaker, brother, Marvin Kernodle, his parents and his in-laws, Caudle and Francis Sharpe.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 14, 2024 at Friendly Lane Baptist Church by Pastor Craig Cox and Rev. Denny Wall with burial to follow in Pine Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and at other times at the home.
