Howard William Thompson, 93, passed away Tuesday at the Hospice Home. He was born June 8, 1923 in Wilkes County, NC to the late Sidney and Mattie Brooks Thompson. He was married to the late Ruby Childress for forty-two years. He served in the US Army during WW II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He attended Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. He was a kind and gentle man who loved the Lord and he loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Lana (Bob) Gaydon, Donna (Mark) Vestal; grandchildren Kim (Scott) Woody, Dylan Willis, Chelsea Vestal; great grandchildren, Ricki Fox, Ryan Fox and his former wife Betty Thompson, whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Thompson; parents; grandchildren, Kim Gaydon, Kurt Gaydon; sisters, Bessie Cheek, Beulah Parks, Pearl Hepler, Iva Menefee and brother Raymond Thompson.
There was a private family service held to celebrate his life and to honor his memory.
There will be a guest book available for signing on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
