Howard Page

Howard Monroe Page, 88, died Saturday evening at his home, surrounded by his family. Howard was born February 3rd, 1922, the third child of Monroe Calvin Page and Lula Belle Cobb Page. He was a lifelong resident of the Pagetown community in Caswell County. He really enjoyed his community this special place where people know their neighbors and where people grew up and stayed in the same place, working, raising their families and visiting and helping each other for Howard, all of this was "home". Howard grew up helping on his parent's farm. Like his parents and siblings, he attended Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church. As a young man, he served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged in 1946. When he got home, he decided to try working in the growing NC textile industry, and went to work in Burlington at a mill. He met and dated a pretty young woman named Mildred Pender, and they married soon after. Howard thrived in his work, and after many years at several different companies, he joined Leath, McCarthy and Maynard and ultimately worked in Quality Control and Product Development in hosiery. He was intrigued about how to make things work better, and while at LMM, he designed several projects to improve testing and quality, which were patented in his name. He also enjoyed the people who worked with him over the years and considered them both work colleagues and friends. He truly loved what he did, and didn't retire until he was 70. His career took him many places Ireland, New York, Canada but he was always happy to be back home in Caswell. In his spare time, "Brady", as he was known by many of his friends, enjoyed reading, working on projects at home, spending time with family and friends and playing golf. He and Mildred raised three children, and were blessed with one grandson. Howard was a strong, reliable and consistent father and husband. He was smart, hard-working and quiet, with a very dry sense of humor. He was a small man in stature, but had a big, solid spirit and presence. His family and friends knew that he could be counted on, and he never let them down. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Jessie Lee Page, his sister and brother - law, Edna and Bill Minor, and his son, Johnny Evan Page. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Pender Page, of the home; daughter and partner, Patricia Kelly and Rick Mitchell; daughter and son-in-law Angela and Linney Hurley, all of Apex, NC, and his grandson, Brian Isley, of Graham. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Underwood and Rev. Darrell Massey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. The family would like to thank the friends and extended family in the Pagetown community who have been so supportive and the many fine caregivers whose help allowed Howard to stay where he liked to be best at home. The family would also like to thank all the staff who made such a difference at Hospice of Alamance/Caswell. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to Hospice of Alamance/Caswell. You may sign the online register book at www.lowefuneralhome.com
