Hosea Wyrick

Elon - Hosea Matthew Wyrick, 97, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on December 20, 1920 in Alamance County to the late Rev. Lonnie Lee Wyrick and Annie Ethel Brown Wyrick and was the husband of 60 years to Nancy Dixon Wyrick who survives. Hosea would say, "I can't even remember not being married".

Hosea retired from Sonoco Products after 15 years of service and was a former employee with Glen Raven Mills for 19 years. He attended First Baptist Church of Elon; he enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Hosea has seen a good deal of action and excitement in his life. He served with the 111th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in the Air Force during WWII. He flew in 81 combat missions, and for his heroic efforts on behalf of his country, he was awarded the Air Medal with eight clusters, two battle stars and a Purple Heart.

Survivors other than his wife, Nancy Wyrick include his daughter, Nancy Coble and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, David Jenkins, Kimberly Christian and husband, Nick, Melissa Jenkins and Daniel Coble; great grandchildren, Dakota "Scooter" Jenkins and Victoria Christian; brother-in-law, Ronnie Dixon and wife, Sandra; nephews, David Dixon and James Phillips and wife, Becky; a niece, Kande Dixon; his extended family and adopted grandchildren, Amanda Terrell, Terrie Terrell, Josh Terrell, Tim Moore and Heather Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Phillips; brother, Ervin Wyrick; nephew, Sammy Wyrick; and adopted grandson, Danny Moore.

The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Sunday, November 25, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Elon by Dr. Mason Smith and Dr. David Durham with the burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 1:45 pm Sunday prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
