Hilton Yow

Hilton Lee Yow, 87, of Dick St., was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 12, 2007. He was a native of Guilford County and was the son of the late Henry Robert and Blanch Flynn Yow. Hilton was married to the late Cora Elizabeth Lib Scoggins Yow who preceded him to glory in October of 1993. Hilton was a former employee of P. Lorillard in Greensboro and later became owner and operator of J.A.U. Carpet and Tile. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and previously served as the Area Coordinator for Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Alamance, Guilford and Orange counties. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was a former Post Commander at the VFW in Gibsonville. Hilton loved sports and officiated high school football and basketball games for several years. He truly was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who loved and cared for his family. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Kay Yow of Cary, Deborah Ann Yow-Bowden and her husband, Dr. William Bowden of College Park, MD and Susan Lee Yow of Cary; son, Charles Ronald Yow of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jason Andrew Yow, Zachery Lee Yow and James Dylan Yow, all of Greensboro; sister, Patsy Yow Jones of Tulsa, OK and a brother, Cauzell Yow of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Betty Jane DeCaro and brothers, Freeman Grant Yow, Tyrus LeJoyce Yow and Robert Flynn Yow. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by pastors, Dr. Garry Baldwin and Dr. Gene Hunsinger, and family friend, Raz Autry. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to express a very special thank you to all the staff at Glenaire Retirement Community who took such wonderful care of Hilton and treated him just like he was part of their family.
