Hildred Loy Isley, 101, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born on September 8, 1921 in Alamance County to the late Rev. William “Bill” McKinley Loy and Oneida Clapp Loy, and was the wife of 60 years to the late Hubert “Bud” Vernon Isley who died in 2007.
Hildred retired from the Alamance-Burlington School System where she worked in the E.M. Holt Elementary School Cafeteria for over 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and was known to feed everyone or any animal that came to her home. Hildred enjoyed yardwork and volunteering for Meals on Wheels, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Isley Billings; her grandson, Mike Billings and wife April; great grandchildren, Hayden, Audrey and Lucy; sisters-in-law, Agnes Loy and Norma Loy; her caregiver and friend, Betty Garner; and several nieces and nephews. Hildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Virginia Fausel and brothers, Kemp Loy and Rev. J.C. Loy.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Nathan Hooks with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Monday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
The family would like to express their appreciation to all of Hildred’s caregivers, neighbors, church family and friends for their support and compassion during Hildred’s declining health.
