Herman Thompson Tate, age 81, of Harmony Church Rd. passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at Healthcare and Rehab of Alamance. A native of Orange County, he was the son of the late Robert Henry and Mattie Workman Tate and the husband of Joan Cheek Tate, who survives. Mr. Tate was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife of the home; children, Vangie Graves of Hamstead, Charles Herman Tate of Durham, Diane Arnold and husband Terry of Greensboro, Robert Tate of Boiling Springs, Angela Hayes and husband Chuck of Wake Forest and Lelia Shepherd and husband Hank of Oak Island; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; siblings, Robert Henry Tate and wife Ginie of Warrenton, OR, Lillian Oakley of Efland, Hazel Hargis of Mebane, Hurley Tate and wife Louise of Efland, Billy Tate and wife Joyce of Efland, Patsy Jolly and husband Allison of Bryant, AR and Frankie Moore of Powhatan, VA. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Rimmer; siblings, Hallie Tate, Lettie Tate Allison, Mary Belle Tate Poole, Annie Laura Tate Bowman and Nellie Tate Gentry. Services will be held at a later date.
