Herman Overby, Sr.

Herman H. Overby, Sr, died on January 4, 2010, after a 3 year battle with cancer. Born on January 10, 1923 in Cedar Grove, NC. Herman lived his life in central North Carolina, most of which was in the Burlington area. Herman was known as a "neighbor's neighbor". Everyone that knew him loved him and he was eager to assist where needed. Herman was employed with Burlington Industries, Pioneer Plant, for 25 years and received many accolades for outstanding service during that time. He spent his retirement enjoying his family and friends. Survived by his 3 children, Donna M. Hall of Clifton, Va, Herman H. "Pete" Overby, Jr. of Graham, NC, and Deborah O. Davies, of Clayton, NC. He is, also, survived by 17 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is, also, survived by 3 sisters, Ms. Jean Hunley, Ms. Frances Saunders and Ms. Sadie Conklin. Herman was predeceased by 4 sons, Roy Newton Overby, Larry H. Overby, Jerry H. Overby and Richard Kimbro, one step-daughter, Kay Kimbro Slaughter, as well as, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Herman will be missed for his ready support and willingness to do for others around him. His family feels fortunate to have had him for his 86 years and look forward to seeing him again in our promised life in heaven. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. For requested memorials, in lieu of flowers, you may make donation to the HOSPICE LEAGUE OF ALAMANCE COUNTY, at 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC, 27215.
