Mr. Herbert Morrison Stainback, age 97, of Burlington, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields after several weeks of declining health. Born in Caswell County he was the son of the late Edward Forrester Stainback, Sr. and the late Nancy Alice Miles Stainback and was married for over 63 years to Mrs. Berta Smith Stainback, who died in 2009. Herbert was a U.S. Army veteran of the 81st Recon and served in North Africa and the European Theater during WWII. He was employed by the City of Burlington for over 22 years before his retirement in 1980. Herbert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a past President of the Burlington Branch, Clerked under several Bishops, served as Sunday School Superintendent and also taught a Sunday School class. Mr. Stainback is survived by his daughter, Ann Stainback Perry of Boone; his son, Joseph Stainback of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jonathan Perry and wife, Beverly, April Pennington and husband, Jeremy, and Brian Perry, all of Boone; and four great grandchildren, Heather Miller and husband, Chad, Amber Perry, Lily Jo Pennington and Emily Claire Pennington, all of Boone. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Stephen Lawrence Stainback; and two brothers, Edward Stainback, Jr. and Talmadge Stainback. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Elon by Bishop Todd Coleman. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 7 PM Sunday afternoon at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields for their loving and wonderful care of Mr. Stainback during his stay there.
