Herbert Gentry

Elon Mr. Herbert Howard Gentry, 85, of Elon passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Twin Lakes Center. Mr. Gentry was born in Easley, SC on August 18, 1921 to the late Thomas Herbert and Rosalie Howard Gentry. Mr. Gentry was married to the late Katherine Walker Gentry for 62 years until her death in June of 2006. During WW II, he worked in an aircraft factory in Baltimore, Maryland. He worked for Associated Transport and later went to work for Ryder Trucking where he retired. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Men of Macedonia Sunday School Class. Survivors include special friends Derek and Dottie Hinton, Natalie and Emily Hinton all of Elon; two brothers, David Gentry of Stone Mountain, GA, and Foster Gentry of Pickens, SC; two sisters, Helen Shirley Corn of Easley, SC and Sarah Beth McQueen of Clinton, SC. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Wayne Gentry, and two brothers, Frank Gentry and Donald Jack Gentry. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Stephen Rust. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12:30-1:45 PM Wednesday prior to the funeral. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Twin Lakes Coble Health Care for their care of Mr. Gentry during his illness.
