Gibsonville, NC Herbert Anderson Cook, age 79, of Ingle Street went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of 56 years to Mary Frances Somers Cook who survives. Herbert retired after 40 years with Burlington Industries and later was employed with Precision Fabrics. He was a member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church. Herbert was a former president of the Gibsonville Boosters Club and a former member, secretary and president of the Gibsonville Lions Club. He was a US Army veteran serving 2 years in the defense of his country. Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Somers Cook of the home; daughters, Brenda Carole Cook Hemphill and her husband, Barry of Julian, Susan Diane Cook Hill of Hawaii; son, Michael Allan Cook and his wife, April of Browns Summit; five grandchildren; one great grandson and his brothers, James Cook of Gibsonville, Lloyd Cook of Ruffin, Fred Cook of Greensboro and Ervin Cook of Sandy Ridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior Floyd and Nettie Jane Whitesell Cook and a brother, Willie Cook. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Apple's Chapel Christian Church by Rev. C. Allen Myers, III and Rev. Tim Geiger and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
