Henry Clay Bare, 85, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Liberty Commons surrounded by his family. He was born on September 5, 1939 in Ashe County, NC to the late Edd and Lessie Bare.
Clay was a man of great skill and dedication; he proudly owned and operated Clay’s Texaco Station in Burlington during the vibrant 1960s. After many devoted years of service, he retired from Carolina Paper and Box Company, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Beyond his professional life, Clay found joy in woodworking and cherished moments spent at his beloved lake house on Lake Tillery. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than the time shared with family and friends, moments that will forever linger in the hearts of those he loved.
He is survived by his children, Denise Smith, Richard “Ricky” Bare and Pamela Clement and her husband Tom; grandchildren, Nichole Allison, Marie Page, Richard “Ritchie” Bare, Jr., Matthew “Matt” Bare, and Ronald “Ron” Uthus and wife Kasey; fourteen great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Owens and Georgia Bare, and numerous nieces and nephews. Clay is now reunited with his cherished parents, a special friend, Frances Lowe and twelve siblings who preceded him in death.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Clay will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at Pamela’s residence. You may sign the online register book and watch the service online at www.lowefuneralhome.com.
