Helen Shively

Burlington-Helen Young Shively, age 79 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by her family. She was a native of Rockingham County and the wife of 60 years to Harry Olin Shively who survives. Helen retired after 26 years with LabCorp and was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at the Hospice Home and the Hospice Flea market for many years. She was in past years a volunteer with the "Fun on the Farm" for autistic children sponsored by the A O Civitan Club. Helen was gifted with the ability to make crafts that she donated to her church for various fund raisers. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Harry Olin Shively of the home; daughters, Lorna Jean Shively of Burlington, Donna Gail Hauser and husband, John of Mebane; sons, Harry Steven Shively and wife, Cynthia and Kenneth Ray Shively and wife, Tracy all of Burlington; grandchildren, Brian Shively, Stephanie Shively, Mason Keck, Griffin Shively, Samantha Hauser, Jarrad Hannah Blatchley and Justin Blatchley; great grandchildren, Khloe Shively and Rylie Mae Blatchley; sisters, Linda Howlett and husband, Neil of Eden and Merrilee Massey of Carolina Beach; brother, Douglas Young of Gastonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, John William Young and Willie McGuire Young; brother, John Ray Young and a sister, Gracie C. Weatherman. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Carl Parsons and the committal will follow in the chapel of the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:45 until 12:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
