Helen Poythress Horner, 87, of 111 Maple Ave. passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born February 17, 1924 in Alamance County to the late L.D. and Martha Adams Poythress. Helen served as a cook in the US Army during WW II and worked for Western Electric for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Post 63 for 18 years and a member of Landmark Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school. Helen also volunteered at the Robert Kernodle Senior Center. Survivors include her daughter Georgia Dupree and husband William Hayes of Bryson City, NC grandchildren; John Dupree, Beth D. Hughes and husband David, Laura Joann Testerman and partner Kelly Banks, a great granddaughter Amber Elizabeth Sobczak, sisters; Irene Qualls, Florence P. Hudson both of Burlington, brothers; Shelton Poythress and wife Sarah, Eugene Poythress and wife Eve all of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Helen Joann Seely and a brother Frank Poythress The funeral will be held 6:00 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rainey Qualls, Jr., visitation will follow the service. Interment will be held 10:00 AM Saturday in Alamance Memorial Park
