Helen Hajek

Helen Lapinski Hajek, 96, of Liberty Commons formerly of Oak Creek Apartments passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Alamance Regional Medical Center following a two week illness. She was the wife of the late Theodore Hajek and was born March 4, 1913 in Belleville, New Jersey to the late Teofil and Adela Pogorzelski Lapinski. Helen was a first generation American as her parents were immigrants from Poland. She retired from New York State University at New Paltz, lived in SC, Minnesota and NC in her later years. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was an accomplished seamstress and loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include her sons, Peter Hajek and his wife Linda of Burlington, Robert Hajek and his wife Susan of Del Mar, CA, a daughter-in-law Michele Hajek of St. Paul, MN, grandchildren, Debbie Zugay, Sandy Hajek, Scott Hajek, Kevin Hajek, Ted Haland, David Hajek, Liz Hajek, Paula Storti, Alexis Kurtz and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a son Theodore John Hajek. The funeral mass will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday April 21, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Rev. Paul Gabriel, O.F.M. Conv. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and at other times at the home of Peter and Linda Hajek, 709 Westbrook Dr. in Burlington.
