Mrs. Helen Marie Johnson Carroll, age 90, of Burlington, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020 surrounded by her loving family after several months of failing health.
Born on August 3, 1929 in Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eugenia “Jenny” Johnson and was married to the late Edgar Franklin Carroll, Sr., who passed in 1963. Helen was very young when her parents died and at the age of 34 her husband passed away leaving her to raise her seven children. Times were tough, but with lots of love and determination she worked hard to provide for her children. She was a longtime member of Trollingwood Baptist Church and later attended Hilltop Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer. She was an avid Elvis fan.
Surviving to treasure Mrs. Carroll’s memory are her seven children, Ed Carroll, Jr. and wife, Priscilla, Douglas Carroll and wife, Debbie, Tracy Carroll and wife, Lynn, Yvonne Carroll Webster and husband, Walter, Phyllis Carroll “Sis” May, Linda Carroll Simmons and husband, Kenneth, and Cindie Carroll Coble; nineteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandson, Monte May; and an infant brother.
