Mebane- Hazel Christine Madren Ray, 86, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Everette Kimes and Viola Caroll Madren and wife of 62 years to D. Willard Ray, Sr. who passed in 2013.
Hazel retired from Annedeen Hosiery Mill after many years of service. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church where she served the Lord faithfully in many different roles over the years including; singing in the choir, working in the nursery and taking care of the church flowers up until she was no longer able. Hazel had such a generous heart that she was willing to help anyone with a need, whether it was family, friends or a stranger. She enjoyed baking pound cakes and making chicken salad for her church friends and family and always had an open door for the children in the neighborhood to come by for a snack and a loving hug. Hazel loved her friends and family and would call to talk to them on the phone every day, sometimes multiple times a day.
Survivors include her son; D. Willard Ray, Jr. “Junior” and wife, Brenda, granddaughters; Michelle Ray Dorminy and husband, Brett and Selena Ray Hungerford and husband, Michael, great granddaughter; Hailey Dorminy and great grandsons; Samuel Hungerford, Noah Hungerford and Dalton Dorminy. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a brother, Bobby Madren.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Eastside Baptist Church by Rev. Chuck Perkins with the burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
The family would like to thank Eastside Baptist Church, Pastor Perkins and all the members that ministered to Hazel and the family during her illness. Thank you for all your prayers, cards, calls and food. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for all the loving care they provided.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home of NC, 204 Idol St, Thomasville, NC 27360.
