Hazel Lewis

Graham- Hazel Maree Johnson Lewis, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. Born in Rockingham County on June 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James Johnson and Thelma Lee Nance Johnson and was the wife of 48 years to the late Charlie Lee Lewis.

Hazel worked as the district secretary for many years at State Employees Credit Union and was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Elon where she served as Sunday School teacher, choir member and choir leader. She was also a part of the handbell ministry and worked alongside her husband with the youth.

Survivors include her daughter, Maree Lewis Grinnell and husband David; granddaughter, Heather G. Pfremmer and husband John; grandson, Spencer D. Grinnell and wife Kayla; great grandchildren, Bailee L. Pfremmer, Braelyn M. Pfremmer and Tali R. Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Esther J. Boyd and a brother, Jesse Neil Johnson.

A funeral service to celebrate Hazel's life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bruce Martin, Dr. David Durham and Mr. Damian Carter (Senior Vice President of State Employees Credit Union). The burial will follow at Shiloh Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45am prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the daughter's home.
