McLeansville - Hassel Vernon Norris, 92, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Person County to the late Charlie and Artelia Brown Norris and was married for almost 70 years to Anneliese Norris who survives.
Hassel retired from AT&T after 35 years of service and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Norris was very devoted to and loved his family. He was a man of Faith and lived his life putting God first! We are thankful that this is not Goodbye but that we will see him again in Eternity. His kindness, gentleness, and compassion were unsurpassed by those who knew him. Up until 3 years ago, he played golf regularly which was a sport he truly loved! Schatzi is Mom and Dad’s dog that is their daily companion who brought them much joy and love! One of his favorite things to do with his family was to play Skip Bo Cards and he was very good at it and won most of the time! He loved to grow things and gardening brought him much joy but more than that, he enjoyed sharing his produce/bounty with others. He was known in the family as a “Fix It” man! The resounding comment was if he could not fix anything then it couldn’t be fixed. To the world he may seem like an ordinary man living an ordinary life! Truth is, he was an Extraordinary Man that will be missed more than words could ever convey on this earth!
He is survived by his wife, Anneliese Norris; children, Carmen Pennington (Bob), Barry Norris (Beth Crandall); grandchildren, Melinda Norman (Chris), Christina Norris, Taylor Pennington and great grandchildren, Kaylin and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings and five nephews.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Norris Family Cemetery in Hurdle Mills. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
