Harry Olin Shively was born on 1/24/1931 in Spray, NC (now Eden}. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen Young Shively in 2015. They were happily married for nearly 61 years at the time of her death. Also predeceasing him were his parents George Edmund Shively and Lelia Shelor Shively, his brothers Robert (Bob) Shively, Gordon (Joe) Shively, Loyd (Logan) Shively, his sister Henrietta (Hink) Terry along with several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his beloved children Steve Shively (Cynthia), Lorna Lankford (Kurt), Kenneth Shively (Tracy) and Donna Hauser (John), grandchildren Brian Shively (Lydia), Stephanie Shively, Samantha Brown (Shawon), Griffin Shively, Mason Keck, Jarrod Blatchley, Justin Blatchley and Sarah Lankford and 5 greatgrandchildren, Khloe Shively, Axel Shively, Lily Shively, Riley Blatchley and Avery Blatchley along with multiple in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Harry (Olin) proudly served his country from June 1950 – June 1953, and he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He served in the 581st Signal Radio Relay Co. This unit was scattered throughout the highest mountains in Korea. After his discharge and a short stay in Spray, he moved to Burlington, NC where he began his career at Western Electric. He worked there for 35 years until his retirement in 1989.
He and his wife devoted their free time to their family and volunteering with various charity/civic organizations such as Hospice of Alamance County and the Altamahaw Civitan’s Fun on the Farm event and supported various other charities. Harry was a beloved and respected husband, father, father-in-law and Paw-Paw. Harry would help anyone in need as he was able. He was proud of his family. He will be remembered for his pranks and great sense of humor and greatly missed by his family and friends.
A service to celebrate Harry’s life will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Kevin Bunn with military honors provided by the US Army. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45am prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times the family will be at the home.
